Jerry is pursued by Lt. Bookman, a hard-boiled library investigator, over an overdue copy of Tropic of Cancer from 1971. Jerry insists he returned the book, but memories from high school involving gym teachers and wedgies suggest otherwise.
George believes a homeless man outside the library is his former gym teacher, Mr. Heyman. Kramer dates a librarian. The sheer intensity of Bookman’s monologues about the sanctity of the public library system breaks down Jerry’s usual sarcastic defenses.
